ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the impact of health and social policy on cancer and palliative care education. It outlines the study of policy formulation and analysis. The chapter looks at the concepts of policy, assists in developing skills of policy analysis, and also outlines relevant policies that are applicable to cancer and palliative care education. It progresses the reader to identify how closely intertwined the study of policy and the study of politics truly are. The chapter explores what influences the formulation of current health and social policy and discusses the development of health and social policy. It identifies sources for accessing specific policies relevant to cancer and palliative care education, examines the dynamics of policy making and relates it to changes in cancer and palliative care healthcare education. It is essential that clinicians and educationalists are aware of the policy formation process and contemporary educational strategies to meet the demands of these changing times.
