ABSTRACT

Good-quality photos can add greatly to the impact of poster. On the other hand, poor photos can confuse or irritate readers. Photos are very appealing to readers, but may need to strike a balance between 'need to have' and 'nice to have'. Some photos may illustrate main results—for example, a gel or radiograph. These are most important photos and need to allow plenty of space for them. It is acceptable, within reason, to add photos purely to make poster more visually interesting—for example, could use a photo of the environment worked in, institution or the members of team. For most scientific images, example: photos of gels or organisms, will be working with images from a digital camera. It is tempting to use photos found on the Internet or to scan in photos from books or papers. However, remember that should have the original owner's permission to use their images.
