Reality and unreality

I still have difficulty believing that this situation is real. After all, this sort of thing doesn’t happen to me. Does it? Why not? Why should I be any different from anyone else? Many people encounter tragedy in some form or other during the course of their lives. Did I think that I was immune? Well, yes. I did. My life had been relatively straightforward so far. The only really traumatic time I can readily identify was when my father died suddenly, just over eight years before. I was distraught, grieving for over a year and needing counselling to help me get through the early months.
