ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights the main principles for working effectively in the area by featuring a sample of some of the most successful projects, however the possibilities for delivering new types of innovative men's health services are essentially limitless. It seeks to demonstrate what is possible in tackling the needs of men with regard to their health. The premature death rate in Bradford as a whole is 6% above the national average. In the most deprived parts of the city the figure is 50% above the national average. Health of Men always had a business-minded approach to everything that we did and the projects that were undertaken by the team could always be marketed both to fellow National Health Service providers and the voluntary sector. With the rise of commissioning and provider splits, this business ethos is more relevant than ever. Funding can be found but it is often from the private and non-statutory sector.
