ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the process of setting up Erectile dysfunction (ED) and male incontinence clinics. A study found that 71% of patients believed that ED wouldn't be recognised as a medical problem, 68% feared that discussing sexuality might embarrass the doctor and 44% of people attending urologists had ED but failed to mention it. A fairly common condition in men and women is when the bladder becomes overactive causing urge incontinence or extreme urgency that can control how far people go from their homes without a map of available toilet facilities. Many men who come to clinic have conditions that are the result of a prostate enlargement, and the nuisance symptoms are what make them report to the doctor, the commonest being having to get up repeatedly during the night to go to the toilet. Health of Men clinics were run at three different locations – two in health centres and one in a cottage hospital.
