ABSTRACT
Wounds and lacerations are extremely common complaints in emergency medicine and urgent care practices. While most are minor and simple to treat, some may be threatening to life or limb. They also represent a significant percentage of malpractice cases. Liability does not necessarily have to result from death or loss of limb. Other complications that have resulted in legal action include loss of function, visible deformity, chronic pain, and foreign body retention.
