ABSTRACT
Poetry is much more than expressing emotion. Confessional poets, such as Anne Sexton, moved us into a wonderful and worthwhile cathartic territory, but the novice poet should not be lulled into believing that these poets threw away all the conventions of poetry. There was still the concern for rhyme, meter, form, and metaphor and other devices literati.
