ABSTRACT

Urogenital fistulas are abnormal connections between an organ of the urinary tract and an adjacent organ of the female genital tract. They can occur in a number of anatomical locations along the urinary tract and the female reproductive system (Table 106.1). The majority of urogenital fistulas worldwide occur in the developing world [1]. Over 90% of these are obstetrical in nature, caused by obstructed labor and poor access to medical care [2]. In contrast, the majority (90%) of urogenital fistulas in the developed world are iatrogenic, occurring after pelvic surgery [3–5].
