ABSTRACT

As we hurtle towards climatic catastrophe and a future that is at best uncertain, will primary care continue to exist as we know it? Surely we will need the comforting presence of the family doctor more than ever. Not to mention some basic healthcare provision for all the survivors. So here is a book called Primary Care in the Twenty-First Century by Professor Geoff Meads of Warwick University, in which he surveys the different ways in which primary care is being provided (I will not use that word delivered) all over the world. Geoff and his team visited an amazing 33 countries in three years and came back with a fascinating report on all the different experiments going on from China to Peru, and from Finland to Thailand – not forgetting Dorset, England.
