ABSTRACT
Introduction This chapter will consider the skills and knowledge that are required for the safe care of children and young people in areas that can be difficult or controversial or where the evidence base might be just developing. It therefore seems prudent to begin with two aspects of caring that are central to care delivery to children and their families, namely coping and being present.
