ABSTRACT

The National Health Service Information Authority produced a health informatics competency profile (HICP) relating to informatics skills necessary for the implementation of the Information for Health strategy document. The questionnaires used the competency levels contained in HICP to assess the skill and knowledge levels in health informatics for each staff group. A competency level of 0 indicates that a respondent has no skills or knowledge in a particular health informatics topic. A competency level of 1 indicates that a respondent has fundamental knowledge only, with few basic skills at most, in a particular health informatics topic. A competency level of 2 indicates that a respondent has moderate skills and knowledge in a particular health informatics topic. A competency level of 3 indicates that a respondent has specialist skills and knowledge in a particular health informatics topic. A competency level of 4 indicates that a respondent has full skills and knowledge in a particular health informatics topic.
