ABSTRACT

The software tools developed for general practice information maturity model /TNAMM provide a shell into which any process maturity and training needs model can be slotted. The use of the process maturity model allows an organisation to define key milestones from its organisation strategy. These can then become the key stages of maturity development. With the developments in e-learning within the national health services NHS under the banner of the NHS-U, this technology offers the NHS the chance to provide tailored learning programmes for every staff member. This is either a utopian or Orwellian vision of the future. The utopian view goes something like this: provides a convenient method of education for NHS staff, education which is relevant and necessary, high-quality education accredited by the NHS and economies of scale, allowing cost-effective provision. The Orwellian view goes something like this: provides a vehicle for training NHS staff in their own time.
