ABSTRACT
Introduction This chapter is designed to introduce the reader to components of the extracorporeal circuit used during haemodialysis. Dialyser designs are discussed together with their advantages and disadvantages, membrane types are reviewed, as are methods of sterilisation and the preparation that is required by the nurse prior to commencing treatment.
