Initial reminders As explained in Chapter 2, General nephrology, only a very small proportion of patients in acute renal failure require renal replacement therapy. The choice of treatment modality depends on physician preference, available equipment, nursing skill mix, and a variety of other considerations including the area in which the patient is receiving care and comorbid risk factors. This chapter focuses on the use of haemodialysis only.
