ABSTRACT
Introduction The first successful organ donors were the living identical twins of people with end stage renal failure. Attempts at transplantation using the kidneys of people who died following a cardiac arrest resulted in varying degrees of success. There are patients still alive today who received their transplants from donors who died as a result of a cardiac arrest, but overall, the survival rates for both organs and recipients were much lower than those of recent years.
