ABSTRACT
Introduction There are many diseases that can result in end stage renal failure. For the purposes of this chapter, the major syndromes causing renal failure will be discussed, as will some of the more frequently encountered diseases that are recorded as ‘miscellaneous’ in the ANZDATA registry. The bulk of the chapter will be devoted to the principal causes of end stage renal failure, as identified in Chapter 1 of this section. Not all the causes of end stage renal failure are addressed in this chapter, and the reader is encouraged to explore them as they encounter them in clinical practice.
