ABSTRACT

The ethos of the guide is simply to provide parents, child-carers and professionals with the knowledge, and therefore the opportunity, to accomplish for themselves the surety that their child, children, or children for whom they have responsibility, are protected from abusers; or to identify abuse and end it. This is a working guide designed to create and raise awareness in parents, child-carers and professionals to the existence of a potential abuser. Tick off the specified characteristics and behaviours if and when identified. This will help to build a profile of the potential abuser. To assist in identifying a potential abuser, consider using the checklists below whenever a ‘new’ person enters parents life, or a contact behaves in such a way as to cause they concern. Copy or use this form, or make use of a diary, to record all known events which cause parent concern.
