ABSTRACT

A regressed paedophile may spend many years as an adult enjoying sexual activity with other adults either in marriage or common-law relationships. ‘Not every sex offender against a child is a true paedophile, sometimes the child serves only as a substitute for a mature partner.’ As an adolescent and as an adult, the regressed paedophile’s sexual arousal and orientation has been drawn towards adults. Having reached adulthood, young or old, the regressed paedophile will at some time in the future begin to find an interest, a fascination, sexual arousal and desire for children. The regressed paedophile is unlikely to have a well-structured, developed and organised method of offending, though this may well change with experience. In the vast majority of known cases, regressed paedophiles are males who are drawn towards female children. The fixated paedophile’s orientation is psychological and deep rooted.
