It can be argued which part of the consultation is most important - for example, finding out why the patient has come or making a diagnosis - but, for any of these to have an effect, a diagnosis must be communicated to the patient, and an appropriate agreed plan of action made . Management is that action plan and, defined literally, management is the art or act of managing or skilful treatment .
