ABSTRACT

Hopefully this book dispels the notion that attaining a medical degree or Royal C ollege membership is an end point or continuing licence for life to practice . All doctors, whether in training or qualified are learners and throughout their lifetime of professional practice, should be supported and encouraged to stay up to-date . This is through a process of continuing professional development ( CPD ) and lifelong learning (LLL) . In essence this is an acknowledgement of the need to maintain, develop and broaden expertise and personal qualities to be able to cope with the professional work challenges of the future in an increasingly competitive world - also a health service with a relentless process of innovation, care pro vision, change in structure and increasing technology.
