ABSTRACT

The binomial distribution Another distribution commonly used in medical work is the binomial. This is particularly applicable to situations in which we know, or strongly suspect, that the probability of a particular event occurring is p and hence that the probability of it not occurring is q = p — 1. The binomial distribution is also useful because it is easily adapted so as to be used as 'normal' data, thus allowing access to the various tests already discussed. The problem with the binomial distribution is that it is difficult for non-mathematicians to understand it and to feel at home with it.
