ABSTRACT

This chapter covers the fundamental principles of presentation skills. Flipcharts are useful in any interactive presentation and have the advantage that they offer a visual record of spontaneity - the audiovisual aid develops as the presentation goes along. They can be useful for recording the outcome of group work or setting/writing down objectives at the outset of the presentation. Slides can be used in single, double or triple projection techniques, but most postgraduate centres restrict double and triple projection facilities to the lecture theatre and these techniques are therefore better suited to a larger audience, but may be used in clinical presentations to illustrate cases and techniques. Playback video is a very useful tool and gives the audience moving images, which can be a welcome break from static images, but it should be used only when it serves to illustrate a point or stimulate discussion.
