ABSTRACT

Nurses frequently take a lead role in the management of chronic diseases. Please reread the introduction to Chapter 4 about your need to be qualified for a specialist role.

Case study 5.1 Mr Round is 48 years old. He moved house and registered with the practice three months ago. When he had a new patient medical, you recorded his blood pressure as 170/110 mmHg. He had obediently returned twice since but his readings remained elevated at 166/104 mmHg and 168/100 mmHg. You now have his medical record from his previous general practice. He appears to have consulted very little and his only blood pressure record is nine years ago when it was 140/80 mmHg.
