Case study 7.1 Mr Barrel, a 59-year-old publican who smokes 30 cigarettes a day, attends for lifestyle advice with you at the GP’s request following an episode of loss of use in his right arm and leg lasting 10 minutes. The GP has diagnosed a transient ischaemic attack (TLA) in the territory of the left middle cerebral artery (see Box 7.1 for likely symptoms).
