ABSTRACT

The National Primary Care Research and Development Centre (NPCRDC) is a multidisciplinary centre established in 1995 as a collaboration between the Universities of Manchester, York and Salford. NPCRDC is funded by the Department of Health, to undertake a 10-year research and development programme relating to primary healthcare in the United Kingdom (UK). The Centre is committed to bridging the gap between academic research and service development, to promote research-based service development in primary care and to promote research awareness and skills of NHS staff. Development is one of the key objectives of the Centre and takes a number of forms, ranging from contributions to organisational development of primary care and research, to longer-term projects. The projects from the Centre's portfolio of projects can be used to illustrate work at the interface between research and development. There are three major components to a service and policy evaluation: structural, process, and outcomes.
