ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines current pedagogical approaches and learning technologies being used at international levels in Australia, Hong Kong, the US, and the UK. It highlights educational strategies and learning opportunities adopted such as problem-based learning, community-based learning and interprofessional cooperation to match the learning outcomes as delivered, assessed and evaluated in health promotion. Health promotion and disease prevention is possible when sustained actions are directed both at individuals and families; as well as the broader social, economic and cultural determinants of non-communicable diseases. Some groups of medical students conducted selective study modules on health promotion topics such as prevention of childhood obesity, helping adolescents in weight control, and a self management programme for asthma. New York City Department of Health and Mental Health arranges a schedule that includes exposure to most health department activities, including programmes, clinics, home visits, restaurant inspections and laboratory activities.
