Orthodontics in general practice

Introduction Most orthodontic patients are treated in the early permanent dentition, typically at 12-13 years old when the second molars erupt. However, it is important to make an annual assessment in the mixed dentition to identify developing problems and where necessary arrange treatment. Early intervention can simplify or eliminate the need for later treatment. A guide to dental milestones and eruption dates is included for reference later in the chapter.
