ABSTRACT

Consulting with oneself is part of the self-management which should be integral to managing an office, a practice, a team, a unit or a department. The first requirement is a relatively calm frame of mind, which one hopes would be recollected in a friendly and supportive consultative session where one can stand back from the problem. This chapter summaries few questions: who, exactly, is complaining about what? Are all the people with the necessary information, authority and responsibility available and, if necessary, involved? The traditional question – what, then, seems to be the trouble? Who is in a position to help? How? In due course – how is it going so far? Consultation clarified this and also that the parents could not assume that all would be well with this life-threatening disorder if she simply changed schools – if that step was possible in her present state.
