ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book explores the challenges, constraints and opportunities for addressing and promoting the sexual health of men in Britain. It begins with many issues, including some of the ways in which sexual health has been defined in society, and discusses how the sexual health of men compared with that of women has received little attention from health researchers, policy makers and health service providers. The book also explores the relationship between sexual health and the health of men. It discusses of aspects of that relationship, including men's role in reproductive health and the effects of social, political and personal change on that role. The book demonstrates this clearly among a group of men who are frequently subjected to sexual and gender stereotyping.
