ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to explore the common problems related to sexuality and sexual health experienced by men during their adult years. Many of the problems encountered have serious consequences for the man's physical, mental and social well-being, reflected in their psychosocial and sexual morbidity. The chapter discusses these effects, specifically focusing on the psychosexual consequences, together with a discussion of the role of psychosexual healthcare in the management of these difficulties. It begins with a discussion of the common sexual dysfunctions encountered by men, including their management, before moving on to the issue of male rape and sexual abuse. Co-morbidity of sexual dysfunctions is commonly encountered. It has been shown that thoughts have profound effect on sexual response and modulate the effects of mood and anxiety. It is important that an accurate sexual and general medical history is obtained. The chapter concludes with a review of the role of psychosexual healthcare.
