ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to consider the key issues impacting on the sexual health of men from black and minority ethnic (BME) communities. It utilizes case study presentations of a variety of community-based schemes in the Midlands, UK, to demonstrate examples of good practice in sexual health promotion with BME men. The chapter focuses on the experiences of black African, black Caribbean and Asian men who comprise the largest proportion of BME males in Britain. The politically and socially sensitive nature of the subjects of ethnicity and sexual health lie at the heart of investigation into black Caribbean men and their sexual health. There are significant differences in the sexual health of BME groups. This will influence the way health-promotion initiatives are developed. The chapter concludes by looking at possible ways forward in maximising the health and ultimately life chances of the population.
