ABSTRACT

Global inequity is increasing, and yet the whole idea of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the primary purpose of the UN, was to decrease the equity gap. The extent to which the UN, despite its stated ideals and World Bank rhetoric, had become compromised is unambiguously illustrated by the statistics. It is freely acknowledged that for the UDHR to work, governments of member states of the UN must individually think in terms of coordinating their policies with those other countries for the maximum global good to be achieved. The growing inequities of income generated by the worldwide influence of neoliberalism on UN policies and activities have greatly increased the number of people without adequate and secure housing. This chapter explores some of the strategies in which management has created divisions and an atmosphere of mutual mistrust among staff engaged in crucial technical health work.
