ABSTRACT

The flat- pleat cone type can make a three-dimensional (3D) origami having multiple shapes connected by making use of the twist-closing structure. In 3D design where a polygonal line is rotated around the axis, the section line should not intersect at the axis. Getting a bit away from the idea of "wrapping a solid," the section line can be determined freely without minding the intersection with the axis. The reason for the section line being able to cross the axis is the twist-closing structure, which allows the sheet to avoid hitting at the folded edges. Similar to the cylinder type, the flat- pleat cone type also can make a 3D origami having multiple shapes connected by making use of the twist-closing structure. The width of the crease pattern is adjusted by the pleat size for each different-sized box. This creation has four twist-closing structures—one each at top and bottom and two at the middle.
