ABSTRACT

The Egyptian Ro was the symbol for the human head and shoulders, in a profile view. The glyph was rather obvious in its reference to the human head and shoulders, and is one of the earlier letter forms in the original alphabet. The Phoenicians decided to make simplifications in the letterform, rename it Resh, then reduced it down to resemble our present day P. Being that the Phoenicians read from right to left, the simplified shape resembled a backward P.
