ABSTRACT
We’ve all heard the phrase that possession is nine-tenths of the law, and perhaps this logic was elemental in the development of the letter T. The T is one of the more ancient glyphs in our alphabet. It was carved by the ancient Semites, and incorporated in the the early Phoenician alphabet. They named it Taw, which meant mark, and our forebears drew it like a simple plus sign. It is believed that they used the Taw to identify livestock and other possessions.
