ABSTRACT

Standardized work is a simple yet powerful concept that can be used in many different areas to help reduce variation, improve quality, and enable more opportunities for improvement. Although it can be applied to both manufacturing and nonmanufacturing processes, it is in the former that the majority of the tools and techniques will be most often used. Therefore, this field guide will primarily feature manufacturing assembly examples as we journey through various aspects surrounding the more common standardized work tools and techniques. This field guide is set up to do two main things. First, the author explores several aspects of standardized work in greater depth. The chapter introduce real-life problems and various other difficulties that the reader might encounter, mostly from real-life experiences. Second, the author helps the readers become comfortable and familiar with the tools and techniques that are introduced in this chapter.
