chapter  3
Diagnosis and Management of Psychiatric Presentations in General Medical Settings
Pages 11

The differences between the context of primary care and general hospital settings, on the one hand, and tertiary care psychiatric facilities on the other, demand a re-evaluation of the approaches to diagnosing and managing patients with psychosocial and psychiatric problems. This chapter discusses the approach to diagnosis and management of psychiatric presentations in primary care. It discusses the theoretical basis and emphasizes the practical issues related to such an approach. It also contrasts the method to traditional psychiatric thought and practice.
