The approach to psychiatric disorders recommended in this book is based on many years of working in primary care and general hospital settings. With this came the recognition that specialist psychiatric perspectives are inappropriate for such situations. The milder, mixed, and less-than-typical clinical presentations seen demanded the need to empower physicians using more relevant medical perspectives rather than inundate them with psychiatric jargon and specialist perceptions, which tend to disempower.
