ABSTRACT

Psychoses are characterized by the presence of strange beliefs (delusions), hearing voices, or seeing visions in the absence of stimuli (hallucinations), and grossly abnormal behavior. They are also associated with disturbed sleep, loss of appetite, poor personal care, preoccupation, social withdrawal or restlessness, and agitation. Problems in attention and concentration, lack of motivation, apathy, and poor work performance can also be present. Psychoses can be classifi ed as acute and chronic, and as episodic or continuous.
