ABSTRACT

Enuresis is the repeated voiding of urine during the day or night into bed or clothes. Usually the voiding is involuntary, but occasionally it may be intentional. A diagnosis of enuresis implies that it is frequent (e.g. twice a week for three months), causes signifi cant distress, and interferes with social or academic functioning. The child should have reached the age of 5 years, the age at which continence is expected. In children with developmental delays, the child should have a mental age of at least 5 years. The incontinence should not be due to medication (e.g. diuretic or sedative) or due to a medical condition (e.g. diabetes, spina bifi da, and seizures).
