ABSTRACT

Health education is a major aspect of pre-school Child Health Care. From the historical point of view, education has been one of the more important means since the founding of Child Health Clinics and has probably contributed to a considerable degree to improved public health. This chapter presents a model for the systematic set-up, implementation and evaluation of health education which seems to us very workable within the framework of preschool Child Health Care. Systematic application of such a model could result in further development of standardized information in this field. However, in the chapter with a survey of educational programmes that have been used in pre-school Child Health Care for some time and for which outcome data are known to a greater or lesser degree. In view of its primary preventive nature, information on nutrition has always been an important task of pre-school Child Health Care.
