ABSTRACT

The birth of every child is a momentous occasion in the life of individuals and families. It is a moment of great potential for emotional growth, when there is the possibility for readjustments within the individual and between couples. Some patients date the change in their sexual life to the birth of a child. Further discussion may reveal that there were many other changes taking place at the same time. Many people remain in touch with their sexual feelings while the relationship is new and spiced with frequent partings and meetings. Such feelings will be mixed with the deeper and older psychological factors. Untangling the many different changes and the effect on each individual person is a complicated piece of detection, needing close observation of the details of the moment by moment happenings in the consulting room.
