ABSTRACT

Introductory definitions serve as an education to the unknown, contributing to the formation of early thought, and subsequent definitions help facilitate discussion and potentially even create new thought. The Oxford Dictionary defines social media as, "Websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking". Social Networking sites like Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter enable people to connect with other people. Content Sharing sites help people share all of the different types of information and electronic media that can be shared using a social networking service or a website. To utilize a social networking service, each person must create a user profile. Most social networking services are Internet-based and include instant messaging, email or publishing capabilities to communicate. Like other media, "social" has multiple channels to connect with people that match demographic and psychographic profiles.
