ABSTRACT

We have arrived at the exciting and challenging place of integration. As you know, research by its very nature is continuous. Yet, periodically, the time is right for accumulated knowledge to be integrated and applied to patient care. This is one of the first times in the evolution of the science of relationship that we are able to shine new light on places where we have been before. And, because of pressures coming from evolving health care policy to influence patients’ health behaviors while controlling costs, it is imperative that we do not wait to create a new model for the relational side of patient care that is grounded as much as possible in existing science.
