ABSTRACT

If you think back to Chapter 1, you will recall that one of the most common causes of cell damage in any part of the body is hypoxia, which is a lack of oxygen because of either poor perfusion (reduced blood flow) or reduced oxygen in the blood as a result of lung or blood disorders. In Chapter 7, we looked at the chronic vascular disorders that narrow the arteries and, in Chapter 8, we considered the causes of acute blockage of blood vessels. In this final chapter on circulatory disorders, we pull this all together as circulatory failure and its effects.
