ABSTRACT

The local effects of a tumour depend on the site and type of tumour, and its growth pattern. Some complications, such as haemorrhage, are more common in malignant tumours because of their ability to invade underlying tissues and their vessels, but it must be remembered that even a microscopically benign tumour (e.g. a meningioma on the surface of the brain) can kill the patient due to its local effects.
