ABSTRACT

Multimedia is simply the term used for transmitting information through multiple forms of recorded sights and sound. These recorded elements of visual and auditory information are supplements to our word-based verbal communication. Digital storytelling has the advantage of being able to benefit from these multiple forms of media to supplement and integrate into the storytelling process. As these things have become instantly available and more easily manipulated, the need and desire for multiple forms of content is continually growing. Streaming video, real-time 3D graphics, and integrated surround-sound are now far beyond novelty items in the toolkit of a storyteller but rapidly becoming standardized tools. Media not only supplements the emotional content of the words used to construct a story, but it can also often encode information and subtleties that the dialogue and narration alone cannot. The shifts in technology are once again opening doors to expanding our ability to manipulate perspective and enhance the story through innovative use of media.
