ABSTRACT

The moving image, as opposed to the still image, contains the extra dimension of time to add to the layers of information. But that extra dimension of time can add to or detract from the act of telling a story with it. Animation is not an exact mirror of the world around it. As such, certain principles were discovered about the implementation of time and movement to the still image. The last vestige of shift in the availability and the portability of still images has most recently come in the form of digital media devices such as personal computers, the Internet, and mobile phones with high-resolution capability. Technology, in the form of high-resolution streaming, increased accessibility and portability, just like the printing press or the smartphone did for the still image. Slow motion is a technique often used in film and television to create a more dramatic effect.
