ABSTRACT

Tomorrow’s industry, due to advancements in technology and the increased sophistication of customers, will be quite different from that of the recent past (Groen et al. 2015). Advancements in communications technologies have made various business transactions cheaper, faster, and better at meeting customer demand. Web-based tools are available to foster information sharing and knowledge management, leading to improved supplychain management, mass customization, benchmarking, customer relationship management (CRM), and e-transformation, on top of adding value to the traditional engineering functions (e.g., product design, project management, plant operations, and manufacturing) (Drucker 2013).
