ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses suggestions for placing and fabricating the heijunkas. The easiest one to resolve will probably be the receiving heijunka. It should be in the receiving department in a conspicuous, high-traffic, but non-disruptive, place. The receiving clerks will have to have access to the board as they retrieve and match up product received with appropriate kanban card. The hourly schedule boxes at the production cell will be covered when we talk about what is needed to set up the production cell. These are far easier to set up. The boxes for kanban cards only cover the immediate time for the scheduled periods in the defined work shifts. In some cases, the buyer will hold cards until the requisite number of kanban cards has been turned in to trigger the vendor activity. There are many cheap and effective ways to affix kanban cards to the part numbers they represent.
